Planning and Implementation Series - Literature

The Planning and Implementation Series - Literature is a series designed to facilitate focused, high-quality planning and implementation of instructional units emphasizing world, American and/or British literature by English language arts teachers. Courses in this series are divided into Planning courses and Implementation courses.
In the Planning courses, you will develop units of instruction that carefully consider:
- Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Thinking
- Literary traditions, themes, and/or history
- Students (for which the instruction is intended)
- Standards
- Texts (print, digital/virtual, video, audio, visual)
- Activities
- Assessments
In the Implementation courses, you will evaluate the effectiveness of your units of instruction based on:
- Student performance and work
- Review of assessments
- Reflection on teaching and learning
- Need for future changes
The series consists of six courses:
World Literature - Planning EDU 559ZG (2 units)
World Literature - Implementation EDU 559ZH (1 unit)
American Literature - Planning EDU 559ZI (2 units)
American Literature - Implementation EDU 559ZJ (1 unit)
British Literature - Planning EDU 559ZK (2 units)
British Literature - Implementation EDU 559ZL (1 unit)
In this series, you will have opportunities to:
- Discover (re-discover) world, American and/or British literature that will enhance your curriculum
- Design more personally satisfying units of instruction
- Successfully meet the needs of your students
- Effectively address English language arts standards and learning objectives
- Integrate engaging activities into your classroom
- Utilize assessments that accurately describe your students' learning and performance
- Earn professional development units while designing new units of instruction
In order to enroll in and complete any of the Implementation courses in the Planning and Implementation Series - Literature, one must first take the Planning course in the corresponding area. For example, American Literature - Planning is a prerequisite for American Literature - Implementation.
There are no required materials or textbooks to purchase for these courses.
