1. How do I enroll?
- All Independent Study courses and Scheduled Classes provide an online registration form so you can enroll at your convenience.
- You may also obtain a brochure/registration form by calling (888)321-6658 or by e-mailing from the web page or by filling out our Information Request Form.
- During normal business hours you may also register by phone with a credit card at (888)321-6658.
- In addition, you may register for scheduled classes at the first class meeting provided space is available.

2. How do I get a transcript?
A transcript is automatically sent within 2-4 weeks of completing a course. For additional copies, use our Online Transcript Request Form, or send your name, social security number, the address to which you want the transcript sent and $5.00 per copy to the address below. Transcripts are mailed within 48 hours of receipt of the request.

3. How can I get more information about a class?
- For additional information about scheduled courses, you can contact the coordinator at the phone number or e-mail address listed on the schedule for your local area.
- For additional information about Independent Study courses, phone (916) 939-2449.
- You may also fill out our Information Request Form to receive general information about courses or to get on the mailing list.
4. Can I get directions to my class?
We recommend using one of the many map programs available on the Internet, including MapBlast! and Yahoo! Maps. Simply key in the address (provided on the class page) and use the "zoom" features on the map to get the size of map you need.

5. How do I get a refund for a class or program I had to drop?
Withdrawals and transfers for regular (live) classes should be done online. You can also call (888) 321-6658 if you cannot do it online. A full refund will be credited to you if the class has not started. After a class has begun each request will be handled on an individual basis.
For Independent Study classes, withdrawal and refund requests must be in writing, enclosed with all course work and materials in original condition (i.e. tapes, books if appropriate), and received within 30 days of enrollment. A $25 per course processing fee will be charged for tuition refunds. Refunds will not be processed after this 30 day period. Please contact USD at (888) 321-6658 for the return address.

6. Can I substitute CLAD courses taken elsewhere?
Yes, the State allows you to combine courses from various institutions to complete your CLAD program, but you should check with the institution(s) or the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to verify that all three domains will be properly covered. Visit the CTC web site or e-mail them at credentials@ctc.ca.gov.
7. I have passed one section of the CLAD test. Can I use coursework to cover the other sections?
No, the State does not permit combining test and coursework options. You must pass all sections of the CLAD test or complete a 12 semester unit approved program along with fulfilling the language requirement required by the state.

10. I need more time to finish my course. What do I do?
USD automatically grants you an additional six months past your initial recommended 90 days. After that time, e-mail sandiego@usd-online.org or call (619) 260-4585 for a special extension.
11. I heard that there is no longer a language requirement for the CLAD. Is this true?
Yes and no. If you have a bachelor's degree, you are covered for the language requirement. If not (limited to certain types of permits), you will still need to complete the language requirement.

12. Can I get a loan deferment when taking continuing education classes?
Yes, if you are enrolled in 6 units you are considered a half-time student and you can send or fax your loan deferment papers to USD:
